Professional Risk Consultant (PRC) Designation

This online self-study program will enhance your commercial producers’ ability to consult with clients to identify loss exposures and risks. By completing it, they will receive the Professional Risk Consultant™ (PRC) designation from The Institutes.


The PRC designation program delivers practical, application-based information from the producer’s perspective. It is designed to help producers gain comprehensive and foundational knowledge of risk management concepts, as well as improve client interactions and satisfaction. Delivered online and supported with study materials, the program provides a convenient way for producers to gain the knowledge and confidence they need to effectively consult with clients.

Program Details:

To earn the Professional Risk Consultant designation, producers must take these courses:

PRC 320—Risk Consulting With Confidence

  • Creating value for your clients through risk management
  • Exploring industry-specific risk management needs
  • Enhancing your expertise in commercial coverages

PRC 321—Trending Topics for Producers

  • Help your clients identify new loss exposures and implement solutions
  • Stay relevant by learning about emerging issues and evolving industry trends
  • Build credibility and confidence by expanding your knowledge of various insurance and risk management topics to improve client interaction

Ethics 311: Ethical Guidelines for Professionals


Ethics 312: Ethics and the CPCU Code

Elective Courses (any two):

  • CYB 201—Cyber Risk Fundamentals
    Learn about cyber risk management concepts and insurance products.
  • SPEC 210—Surplus Lines Fundamentals
    Learn how the surplus lines market profitably insures risks that the standard insurance market does not accept.
  • SPEC 211—International Insurance Fundamentals
    Learn the key concepts involved in constructing an international insurance program for an organization based in the United States.
  • CAP 201—Captive Insurance Fundamentals
    Learn the fundamental characteristics and benefits of captive insurance from a global perspective.

Exam Information:

Several of the courses within the PRC program have online self-administered exams. The PRC-320 course requires students to pass a 50-question exam that is administered at Prometric testing centers or agency or brokerage testing centers and takes approximately 90 minutes to complete.
